Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport Following Significant ATC System Failure
Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport after a substantial air traffic control outage grounded all flights.
Every arrival and departure were suspended because of an IT issue that occurred at about 08:30.
Several flyers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
That said, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Services bound for key destinations like Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, and Bristol have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.
A spokesperson had initially projected that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be affected.
"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," was the consistent advice.
Cause of the Chaos
The airport attributed the full ground stop to an technical fault with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers are still being urged to check the status of their trip before departing to the airport as residual delays are worked through.
