Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests show the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter aiming at people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
