Indigenous Communities Gather for Civil Society Forum
Representatives of Amazon's indigenous communities assembled at the city's campus for the inauguration of a parallel People's Summit.
Images captured participants moving rhythmically, singing and mingling at the event, on the grounds of the Federal University of Para, just a couple of miles from the summit venue where the global environmental conference is being held.
"In this space we are acknowledged, here our concerns are taken seriously," commented one attendee at the summit.
Symbolic Setting for Environmental Summit
This current global talks marks the initial meeting being organized in the Amazon region, a significant choice by the Brazilian government, in measure to secure that aboriginal populations have a larger presence.
Discontent and Actions
