New England Equal Best Victory Run Since Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five scores in the present year
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Brady period as they defeated AFC East opponents the Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson led the way with three touchdowns as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The triumph extends the Patriots advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had scored first at Gillette Stadium with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to conclude the Jets' first possession
But the New England answered in the second quarter as Henderson scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the ball carrier hauled in a throw from Maye at the back of the end zone in the middle of the third period to extend the lead to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him delivering, and it's been excellent for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He aims to be excellent."
Justin Fields connected with John Metchie toward the end of the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the final period as the Patriots wrapped up the triumph
