Tehran's Authorities Warn the former US President Against Violate a Critical 'Limit' Regarding Demonstration Intervention Statements
Ex-President Trump has warned of involvement in the Islamic Republic should its authorities use lethal force against demonstrators, resulting in admonishments from Iran's leadership that any American interference would cross a “red line”.
A Public Statement Ignites Diplomatic Strain
Via a public declaration on Friday, the former president said that if Iran were to shoot and kill protesters, the United States would “step in to help”. He further stated, “we are prepared to act,” without explaining what that would involve in reality.
Demonstrations Enter the Next Phase Amid Economic Strain
Public unrest are now in their latest phase, constituting the most significant in recent memory. The present demonstrations were sparked by an unprecedented decline in the national currency on recently, with its worth falling to about 1.4m to the US dollar, worsening an existing financial crisis.
Seven people have been confirmed dead, among them a volunteer for the Basij security force. Recordings circulate showing officials carrying firearms, with the noise of discharges heard in the video.
Tehran's Authorities Deliver Stark Rebukes
In response to the intervention warning, an official, adviser to the country's highest authority, stated that internal matters were a “non-negotiable limit, not material for reckless social media posts”.
“Any foreign interference targeting the country's stability on pretexts will be cut off with a forceful retaliation,” he posted.
Another senior Iranian official, Ali Larijani, alleged the US and Israel of being involved in the unrest, a common refrain by Tehran in response to domestic dissent.
“Trump must realize that foreign interference in this domestic matter will lead to instability across the whole region and the destruction of American interests,” the official declared. “The public must know that the former president is the one that started this adventure, and they should pay attention to the well-being of their soldiers.”
Context of Strain and Demonstration Scope
Iran has vowed to strike American soldiers stationed in the region in the before, and in recent months it attacked a facility in Qatar following the American attacks on Iranian nuclear enrichment sites.
The ongoing demonstrations have been centered in the capital but have also extended to other urban centers, such as a major city. Business owners have shuttered businesses in solidarity, and youth have taken over campuses. While economic conditions are the primary complaint, demonstrators have also voiced anti-government slogans and criticized what they said was graft and poor governance.
Official Approach Evolves
The Iranian president, the president, initially invited protest leaders, adopting a softer stance than the government did during the 2022 protests, which were violently suppressed. Pezeshkian noted that he had directed the administration to listen to the people's valid concerns.

As Iranian authorities deal with protests at home, it has tried to stave off claims from the US that it is rebuilding its nuclear activities. Iran has stated that it is halted enrichment activities anywhere in the country and has signaled it is open for talks with the international community.
