An extensive 60-day cruise circling the Land Down Under is being halted following the fatal incident of an elderly lady who was left behind by the ship on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with other travelers from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The vessel departed without her and came back later that day after the crew became aware the passenger was not present.

A large-scale hunt found her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the incident, alongside police and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that travelers and crew on the vessel were told that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he further stated that travelers would be given a full refund, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an latest announcement, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" preventing any additional guests from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the ship in the port city upon its return.

Sequence of Incidents

The ship first departed the Australian port on October 24th, and was just two days into the voyage at the time of the 80-year-old's passing. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the journey.

Guests on the vessel - who typically pay large sums of money to take part in the voyage - were transported there for a day trip with the possibility of walking or snorkelling.

The daughter of the elderly passenger said that her family was "surprised and grieved that the ship left the location after an organised outing without my mother".

Via her announcement, she characterized her parent as an "active 80-year-old" who was a affiliate of a walking group.
